I have never read a better detailed book about the Great Chicago Fire for kids in a way that it will make them want to go learn more about that tragic event. I totally get where Emmi was coming from being that she just wasn't fitting in with everyone due to the simple fact that she was an German immigrant living in America with only her dad. It was when the fire broke out and Emmi's dad left her alone in the house because he thought it would be safer but as it turns out, nothing would be safe that night.With Emmi left to fend for herself, she discovers how strong she can be and how certain enemies can find themselves becoming friends all due to a fire that has the entire town on the run. That ending was bittersweet for what happens all due to kindheartedness during a tragedy. This book might have been a quick read for myself but I can almost feel myself with Emmi trying to escape the fire while searching for her dad. If anything, this book is a fantastic add to the stories that tell of the night that Chicago burnt down!Thank You to Salima Ailkhan for this awesome book with writing that makes you feel like you are right there with the characters!!I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley!
